Q) My son is planning to purchase a house in SE London. The house was traditionally built in 1979 of cavity brick walls and tiled roof. The problem is that the next door neighbour's front garden has conifer trees planted along the boundary, the nearest tree being only one foot from the house front wall. The trees are already over 10 feet high. If planting leylandii today, what is the safe advisable distance necessary to plant a conifer tree from the house?
A) Leylandii Roots are not all that disruptive, however being that close to walls and property will have affects. You wouldn't really want to see them go over the height of around 15-20ft. Have you discussed with the owners to see who high they are planning on letting them grow?
It maybe that they have already trimmed them back and that 10ft is the most they want them to grow to, in which case that should be fine.
